GIFTS FOR MOTHER Four brothers left home for college, and they became successful doctors and lawyers and prospered. Some years later, they chatted after having dinner together. It took 20 monks 12 years to teach him. I had to pledge them $100,000 a year for 20 years to the church, but it was worth it. Mama just has to name the chapter and verse and the parrot will recite it.” The other brothers were impressed. After the holidays Mama sent out her Thank You notes. She wrote: Dear Milton, the house you built is so huge. I live in only one room, but I have to clean the whole house. Thanks anyway. Dear Mike, you gave me an expensive theater with Dolby sound, it could hold 50 people, but all my friends are dead, I’ve lost my hearing and I’m nearly blind. I’ll never use it. But thank you for the gesture just the same. Dear Marvin, I am too old to travel. I stay home, I have my groceries delivered, so I never use the Mercedes … and the driver you hired is a big jerk. But the thought was good. Thanks. Dearest Melvin, you were the only son to have the good sense to give a little thought to your gift. The chicken was delicious. Thank you.”

Finally, the old man turned to the frog and exclaimed, "At my age, I’d rather have a talking frog!"

تبصره :
قیود تکرار بعد از افعال مخصوص و قبل از افعال معمولی بکار می روند:

a) پرسیدن نام کسی:
وقتی بخواهیم نام كسی را بپرسیم معمولا از یكی از دو الگوی زیر استفاده می كنیم:

نام شما چیست؟
?B) Who are you
اگر بخواهیم به تفكیك نام و نام خانوادگی را بپرسیم،آنگاه سوالات فرق می كند:
?What is your first name -
اسم کوچک(نام)شما چیست؟
?What is your surname -

? What is your lastname -
فامیل شما چیست؟
در مواردی كه نام فرد را می دانید اما مشكوك هستید كه درست است یا خیر،آنگاه می گویید:

b ) پرسیدن راجع به شغل کسی:
وقتی بخواهیم شغل و حرفه ی كسی را بدانیم از یكی از الگوهای زیر استفاده می كنیم:

معنی هر سه جمله: شغل شما چیست؟
c) پرسیدن ملیت و اصلیت کسی:
برای اینكه بدانیم ملیت یك فرد چه بوده و به بیان دیگر،اهل كدام كشور است،از الگوی زیر استفاده می كنیم:
شما اهل کجا هستید؟ ?Where do you come from
در پاسخ به دو گونه می توان عمل كرد:
نام کشور+I am from-
صفت ملیت فرد+I am a/an -

در موارد زير بايد از حرف بزرگ (Capital Letter) استفاده کرد:
1- اولین حرف هر جمله:

2- ضمیر "I":
مثال:
My parents and I went to a restaurant last night.
When I was born, I had blue eyes.
3- اسامی افراد و حیوانات خانگی:
مثال:

Mr. Miller is our teacher.
John has a pet named Fluff.
4- محل های خاص و مشخص (شهر، کشور، ايالت، خیابان، پارک، مدرسه، ...):
مثال:
They live in New York City.
Peter is from England.
The post office is on Main Street.
I go to Farabi School.
5- روزهای هفته:
Saturday – Sunday – Monday – Tuesday – Wednesday – Thursday – Friday
6- ماه های سال:
مثال:
My birthday is in the month of April.
The first month of the year is January.
7- نام روزهای تعطیل و ایام خاص:
I went to a party on Valentine's Day.
Americans eat turkey on Thanksgiving Day.
Children play "trick or treat" on Halloween.

اگر قرار باشد راجع به گذشته صحبت كنیم،بیشترین زمانی كه مورد استفاده قرار می گیرد،گذشته ی ساده می باشد.این زمان می تواند بر رویدادهای كوتاه،موقعیت ها و امور طولانی تر و حتی رخدادهای تكراری در زمان گذشته،دلالت داشته باشد.
الگوی ساخت آن بسیار ساده است.تنها كافی است كه قسمت دوم فعل را بعد از فاعل بیاوریم.برای ساختن قسمت دوم فعل،در مورد افعال با قاعده،به شكل ساده فعل
edمی افزاییم.در مورد افعال بی قاعده نیز قسمت دوم هر فعل مختص به خودش است كه باید حفظ گردد.. He walked into the restaurant and ordered a drink -

تبصره:زمان گذشته ساده همیشه مفهوم ساده نداشته و می تواند دلالت بر حال و آینده نیز داشته باشد.
مواردی كه الگوی گذشته ی ساده،مفهوم گذشته ندارد عبارتند از:
1..بعد از Ifو سایر کلمات دیگر که مفهوم شرطی دارند.
. If I had the money now,I'd buy a car-
اگر الان اون پولو داشتم، یه ماشین می خریدم.
.You look as if you were just about to scream-
اینجوری به نظر میرسه که می خواستی جیغ بکشی.
۲.بعد از عبارتهایی نظیر:
It's time(الان وقتشه)،would rather(بهتر است كه)وI wish(ای كاش)،الگوی گذشته ساده برای بیان مفهوم حال و یا حتی آینده بكار می رود.

ساعت۱۰هست،وقتشه كه بری خونه.
. Don't come and see me today.I'd( 'd =would)rather you came tomorrow -
امروز برای دیدن من نیا،بهتره كه فردا بیایی.
