CELEBRATION OF EID-UL-FITR IN TRINIDAD & TOBAGO

Eid-ul-Fitr or Id-Ul-Fitr, often abbreviated simply as 'Eid', is a Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting.

Eid is an Arabic term meaning "festivity" or "celebration" while Fitr means "to break the fast".

As in other parts of the world Eid ul-fitr is marked with great sadness and jubilation. Sadness that the blessed month of Ramadan has ended, and great happiness that we have completed our fast and Inshallah (God willing) our fast would have been accepted.

Muslims celebrate not only the end of fasting, but also thank God for the help and strength that they believe he gave them throughout the previous month to help them practice self-control.

New clothes are bought to be worn to mosque for Eid prayer. Mehindi or henna is applied to the hands of the sisters.

The Eid prayer is recited in congregation in mosques or in an outdoor area (a ground or park) to accommodate the large numbers who attend this prayer.

Nights of Qadr
در اين ليالي قدر از همه شما التماس دعا داريم

Ramadan is one of the names of God just like other names of the Creator of the universe. That’s why it should never be uttered by itself. ’We should say: The Month of Ramadan’.
Historian Hosham Ibn-e Salem said, “We were eight persons accompanying Imam Mohammad Baqer (AS), the fifth Imam of Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) infallible household. The Imam (AS) advised us not to say Ramadan came or went, because, it is one of the names of God and you should specify ’the month of Ramadan’. The holy Qur’an was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) during this holy month and God Almighty conferred blessing of festivity on the holy month.
“Just as the Almighty sent Jesus Christ (PBUH) as a blessing for Christians, the holy month was a blessing for Muslims, because, the holy book was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on this occasion,“ Imam Ali (AS), the first Imam of Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) infallible household said.
The Persian daily Hamshahri said that to recognize a blessing, the best way is to refer to words of the Almighty and religious leaders and that they have described the fasting month of Ramadan as the holy month during which it is obligatory for human beings to fast from dawn to dusk.
Imam Ali (AS) said, “Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) described it thus: O’ People, the month of God, blessing and mercy has come to you.“
The term ’blessing’ conveys the concept of ’abundance, growth and mercy. The book Lessan Al-Arab (language of Arab) by Ibn Abbas said that ’blessing is abundance and goodness’.
Ragheb Esfahani said, “Blessing is just like a pool filled with goodness and mercy of God and that the month of Ramadan has been referred to as holy and a blessing in the Qur’an.“
“Holy Qur’an says: Enna Anzalna Fi Leila t-al-Mobarakah: In fact, holy Qur’an was revealed to entire humanity on the night of Qadr (night of vigil).“
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said observe fasting to guarantee your well-being. Imam Ali (AS) said in one of his sermons “Fear God and the punishment of corruption. The Almighty saves human beings when they observe piety, perform prayers and abstain from eating in the holy month of Ramadan and give alms to the poor. Observing the commands of the Almighty helps human being overcome Satan and the illnesses, especially fasting has many virtues which are rewarded by God.
Hosham bin Hakam asked Imam Jaafar Sadeq (AS), the sixth Imam of Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) infallible household about philosophy of fasting, the Imam said that God Almighty made fasting obligatory to make the rich understand the poor suffering from starvation and encourage them to offer alms to the poor.
Nights of vigil coincide with the 21st and 23rd of the month of Ramadan.
Imam Musa Al-Kazem (AS), the seventh Imam of Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) infallible household said that the faithful can come closer to God by observing vigil on the nights of Qadr.
Imam Ali (AS) said that his wife Hazrat-e Fatemeh (SA) did not allow anyone to sleep on Qadr nights. “She used to say those sleeping on Qadr nights, are depriving themselves of the virtues of the sacred nights.“
Imam Baqer (AS) said that on the nights of Qadr, the angels come down to the earth watching the faithful worshipping and fasting.
“The weather is splendid on Qadr nights. In winter, those nights are warmer than other nights and in summer, vigil nights are cooler,“ the fifth Imam said.

hadi-ramadhan21-imam-ali-ayyam-qadr-editorial-pic-master-withtext

Condolences to the all the Muslims of the Universe and all freedom and justice loving people on the occasion of the anniversary of the Martyrdom of the Commander of the Faithful, the Brother of the Prophet Muhammad(S), Imam Ali ibn ibn Abi Talib(A).

Also, on the advent of the Nights of Qadr (Power, Destiny, Fate), which range from the 19th of Ramadhan to the 27th of Ramadhan, it is important to focus on our belief, on our sins and on reforming ourselves, first internally and on a personal and individual level, then on a familial level and then on a social level.

Throughout the world, we can see much oppression and injustice, we can see natural resources plundered, we can see global chaos, and in these days the words of Dua al-Iftitah:

O Allah, we ardently desire that in [his] kind, just, and fair era,
     Thou should reactivate Islam and stimulate its followers,
     and humble and humiliate the imposters and their double-dealing,
     and include us among those who invite people unto Thy      obedience,
     and lead them to Thy approved path,
     and give us the good of this world and the world to come.

and also

O Allah, we feel uneasy about and are disturbed by
     the departure of our Prophet,
     Thy blessings be on him and on his family,
     the absence of our guardian-friend,
     too many enemies,
     our numerical scarcity,
     widespread disorder,
     and the vicissitudes of time.

So send blessings on Muhammad and on his family,
     and help us to overcome this state of affairs at once.

Disperse the ominous clouds hanging over our heads;
     lend a helping hand to achieve success;
     bring in the rule of justice and fair play;
     make us bright, free from grief;
     and take care of us.
Through Thy mercy, O most Merciful.

It is important for all to reflect on this supplication, which as mentioned in previous editorials is recited daily during the blessed nights of the Month of Ramadhan.

We should also reflect and read the Quran and reflect upon the contents therein; while there is a spiritual value in reciting Quran; there is far more benefit from every perspective – be it personal, spiritual, educational, mental, sociological, political, economical, etc – in reading the Quran and reflecting upon it’s words and learning from it.

You can listen to the entire Quran here on Islamic Digest by going to our Quran Library.

Allah, the Mighty the Sublime has told us that the Nights of Qadr are more valuable than 1000 (one thousand) months in terms of their spiritual weight; we should all strive to gain the most benefit from these nights and achieve the pleasure of Allah, which will by its very nature give us calm and peace in our hearts; after all; in the Quran, Allah says:

Verily it is in the remembrance of Allah that hearts find peace

(Quran, Surah Yusuf (Joseph), Ayah (Verse) 28)

تولد امام حسن مجتبي مبارك

زندگينامه و فضائل اخلاقي آن حضرت

Imam Hassan Mujtaba (AS

On the Birth Anniversary of Imam Hassan (AS) Mahjubah sends congratulations to all Muslims of the world and uses this opportunity to present a brief summary of his life.

Imam Hassan Mujtaba (AS) was the first grandson of the

Holy Prophet (SAW) and also the first offspring of the holy matrimony of Imam Ali (AS) and Hazrat Fatima (SA). He was born in the middle of Ramadhan, 3 A.H.

The birth of Hassan ibn Ali (AS) and his childhood

When he was born, the Prophet (SAW) cuddled him lovingly in his arms and whispered the "Azan" in his right ear and "Iqamah" in his left ear.

Imam Hassan was cared and loves by his grandfather for seven years. In his childhood he accompanied the Prophet (SAW) to the mosque and when he (SAW) prostrated, he would climb upon his shoulders. The Prophet (SAW) would remain in prostration for a longer time and let the child sit on his shoulders.

Imam Hassan (AS) was one of the four persons who accompanied the Prophet (SAW) under the `Aba" (clock) when God sent down this verse:

"Allah"s wish is but to remove uncleanness from you, O people of the Household and cleanse you with a thorough cleansing." (33:33)

Once when Christian scholars had come to Medina to talk to the Prophet (SAW) and  to enquire about his call to Islam, a heated debate ensued. For this reason, each party took their dearest of kin to the dessert and appealed to Allah to curse the party who uttered falsehood.

The Prophet (SAW) took Imam Ali, Fatima, Hassan and Hussain (AS) to the desert. When the Christian scholars saw the children of the Prophet (SAW), they gave up the idea of calling down the curse of Allah on the loser of the debate.

One day during his childhood, he with his brother Hussain (AS) saw an Arab man performing ablution. In as much as he didn't perform the ritual properly, they decided to show him how it should be done. But in order that he might not be annoyed, they suggested to him that they perform ablution, and the man judge which ablution was correctly performed. The Arab man said: "Both your ablutions are perfect and mine is wrong." He was amazed at their politeness and asked them who they were and kissed their faces.

As to the features of his face and body, Imam Hassan (AS) had healthy pink cheeks, black eyes, thick beard, curly thick hair, silver-white neck, symmetry of body, broad shoulders, firm muscles, slender waist, middle stature and handsome looks.

Moral Endowments:

Imam Hassan (AS) was generous, modest and brave. During his ablution and saying his prayer, his body trembled and his face turned pale. He divided his money: one part for himself; another for the Cause of Allah; and the remaining part for the relief of needy people.

One day he passed by a group of poor people in the street who had spread a cloth on the ground. Seeing Imam Hassan (AS), they invited him to lunch with them which was nothing but crumbs. Imam accepted the invitation and took a few morsels and then he took them home and gave them food and clothes. He made pilgrimage to the Holy Kaba 25 times on foot, whereas he had full-bred horses. The Holy Prophet (SAW) had said that Hassan (AS) and Hussain (AS) were both his children and Imams, whether they rose up or secluded themselves. In the battles of Jamal and Siffin, Imam Hassan (AS) fought by his father's side and displayed great valor. Some historians narrated that during the caliphate of Umar ibn Khattab, Imam Hassan (AS) was a conqueror of part of the Iranian territory.
