Fasting is an integral part of many of the major religions including Islam, Judaism and Christianity. Many are dubious as to whether the physiological effects are as beneficial as the spiritual promoted by these religions. There is a significant community of alternative healers who believe that fasting can do wonders for the human body. This paper will look at the arguments presented by these healers in an attempt to raise awareness of the possible physiological benefits that may result from fasting.

Poems are the perfect means for saying something special to someone special. One of the ways to show respect for your teachers is to give them Teacher's Day poems. Poems for Teachers' Appreciation Day can help you express your feelings if you find it difficult to say them yourself. They do not cost anything, but are priceless to the teachers.

There are Some of Poems for Teachers day :

Wonderful Teacher

With a special gift for learning
And with a heart that deeply cares,
You add a lot of love
To everything you share,
And even though
You mean a lot,
You'll never know how much,
For you helped
To change the world
Through every life you touched.
You sparked the creativity
In the students whom you taught,
And helped them strive for goals
That could not be bought,
You are such a special teacher
That no words can truly tell
However much you're valued
For the work you do so well.

Dreams of bright and beautiful things

Dance through all the fun filled hours
Don't forget to smell the flowers

Share some love and birthday cake
All life joys are yours to take

And when evening comes to view
Thanks your lucky stars you're you

Happy Birthday

Number One Teacher

(Name of teacher),

I'm happy that you're my teacher;
I enjoy each lesson you teach.
As my role model you inspire me
To dream and to work and to reach.

With your kindness you get my attention;
Every day you are planting a seed
Of curiosity and motivation
To know and to grow and succeed.

You help me fulfill my potential;
I'm thankful for all that you've done.
I admire you each day, and I just want to say,
As a teacher, you're number one!

 Happy Nowrouz Traditions in Iran

Sample
ImageAt the time of Tahveel or exact moment of the vernal equinox in Iran, the holy Qur'an is recited and special supplications are read in Arabic as follows;

Ya Moqallab al-Qoloub wa'l-Absaar;
Ya Modabber al-Layl wa'n-Nahaar;
Ya Mohawwel al-Howl wa'l-Ahwaal;
Hawwil Halana ila Ahsan il-Haal.

Translated into English this famous Arabic supplication means:

O' Transformer of Hearts and Eyes;
O' Regulator of Day and Night;
O' Rotator of Time and Situation;
Change our state to the most excellent of Situation.

Iranians prepare for Nowrouz well in advance and start with a thorough cleaning of their houses since a famous hadith from Prophet Mohammad (blessings of God upon him and his progeny), says: Cleanliness is part of faith. The spring is also a pleasant occasion to celebrate after the cold and dreary days of winter. Upon the arrival of the spring one of the common traditions in Iran is cleaning the houses thoroughly and washing carpets and draperies and brushing furniture. In all towns and cities, cleanliness is well observed even on streets and public sites. In some localities, people by dividing works among themselves prepare for the New Year. The old and young, men and women work in a general voluntary mobilization for cleaning the locality and the place of work.
Of course cleanness is also noticed in the other days of the year, particularly since Islam has put a special emphasis on it. But one should say that at the beginning of spring, with the cleanness and decoration of streets and houses, the freshness of this season is more properly felt. As people clean their clothes and homes they make their chests the refuge of affection and sincerity. Sample Image

Thus, wishing well for everybody and showing fraternal feelings is a special feature of Nowrouz. Every year on the threshold of the New Year, public efforts to look into the needs of the poor and helping them are seen all over Iran. Every one vies to help the deprived section and extend financial aid to them in order to gladden their hearts and provide a pleasant atmosphere. Actually on the last days of the year, people, with the cooperation of the government, engage in public mobilization of charity work for sharing happiness with the have-nots.
Another common tradition in Nowrouz at the moment the earth completes its revolution around the sun, is the Haftseen tablecloth that is spread and adorned with fruits, dry nuts, cookies, flowers, and of course, a copy of the Holy Qur'an. In addition seven items that begin with the letter Seen or S of Farsi like Seer, Senjed, Serkeh, Seeb, Somaq, Sabzeh, and Samanou are spread on the Haftseen. Samanou is a typical Iranian food prepared with wheat pods.
Other features of the Nowrouz tablecloth are the beautiful arrangement of eggs painted with a variety of colours. The Haftseen also contains a water container containing a red fish as well as mirror in front of which are placed candles. Placing the Holy Qur'an on the Haftseen tablecloth and reading surahs from it at the turn of the year are among the other common traditions among the Iranian Muslims. Many Iranians fast on Nowrouz as recommended in Islamic text as thanksgiving to the Almighty Creator, Who regulates days and nights, and Who transforms seasons. Many Iranians go on pilgrimage to holy sites to mark Nowrouz.

The holy cities of Mashhad and Qom are crowded with millions who pray to God on this occasion to put into practice one of the major recommendations of Islam that is renewal of friendship and strengthening of affection. Thus at the turn of the New Year, greetings are exchanged and affection replaces strained ties. Usually youngsters visit the elders with visits to one's parents a top priority.

Gifts are also exchanged. People also visit hospitals to sympathize with patients and share with them the freshness of spring. Hospitals and rehabilitation centers witness the most beautiful scenes of sincerity and affection during these days.
Most Iranians take the opportunity of Nowrouz holidays to visit other cities and towns or plan trips abroad for change of atmosphere. Historical sites and places with good climate are the favorite spots of Nowrouz tourists. The 13th of Farvardin is usually spent outdoors to provide a fitting end to the spring holidays, before schools and colleges reopen, and people return to normal working life.

Nowrouz

Nowrouz, means "New Day" in Persian. It occurs on the Spring or Vernal Equinox and marks the start of the New Calendar Year in Iran, Tajikistan, and Afghanistan.
It is interesting to note that the solar year in use in Iran and said countries, is like its lunar hijri counterpart, dated on the auspicious migration from Mecca to Medina of Prophet Mohammad (blessings of God upon him and his progeny). In other words, if the present lunar hirji year is 1430, the solar hijri year is 1388.
The exact time the New Year starts is called "Saal Tahvil", and this year it will occur on Friday, March 20, 15:13 Iran time.
No-Rooz with its' uniquely Iranian characteristics has been celebrated for at least 3,000 years. Iranians consider NowrouzSample Image
as their biggest celebration of the year, and before the New Year, they start cleaning their houses (Khaane Tekaani), and they buy new clothes. But a major part of New Year rituals is setting the "Haft Seen" with seven specific items. All the seven items start with the letter "S". These seven things usually are: Seeb (apple), Sabze (green grass), Serke (vinager), Samanoo (a meal made out of wheat), Senjed (a special kind of berry), Sekke (coin), and Seer (garlic). Sometimes instead of Serke they put Somagh (sumak, an Iranian spice).
Wheat or lentil representing new growth is grown in a flat dish a few days before the New Year and is called Sabzeh (green shoots). Decorated with colorful ribbons, it is kept until Sizdah beh dar, the 13th day of the New Year, and then disposed outdoors. A few live gold fish (the most easily obtainable animal) are placed in a fish bowl. In the old days they would be returned to the riverbanks, but today most people will keep them. Mirrors are placed on the spread with lit candles as a symbol of fire. Most of the people place the Holy Qur'an on their Sofreh (table spread) in order to bless the New Year.
After the Saal Tahvil, people wish each other a happy new year. Then they give presents to each other (traditionally cash, coins or gold coins), usually the elders to the younger ones. The first few days are spent visiting older members of the family, relatives and friends. Children receive presents and sweets, special meals and "Aajil" (a combination of different nuts with raisins and other sweet stuff) or fruits are consumed. Traditionally on the night before the New Year, most Iranians will have Sabzi Polo Mahi, a special dish of rice cooked with fresh herbs and served with smoked and freshly fried fish. Koukou Sabzi, a mixture of fresh herbs with eggs fried or baked, is also served. The next day rice and noodles (Reshteh Polo) is served. Regional variations exist and very colorful feasts are prepared.

The 13th day of the New Year is called "Sizdah Bedar" and spent mostly outdoors. People will leave their homes to go to the parks or local plains for a festive picnic. It is a most popular day of the holidays among children because they get to play a lot!

ImageNowrouz, or the celebration of the advent of spring, which was actually borrowed from the astronomically advanced Babylonians by Cyrus the Great when he conquered Mesopotamia, is as old as mankind and the creation of the first man, Adam. Although the Iranian thoroughly Persianized it, there are many traditions in Islamic texts that it was on the Spring Equinox that the Ark of Noah touched Mount Joudi, the waters of the Red Sea parted for Moses, and Mecca was taken without a fight by the Almighty's Last and Greatest Messenger, Prophet Mohammad (blessings of God upon him and his progeny). In view of these facts, there are special prayers and supplications prescribed for No Rooz in Islamic texts and Muslims in Iran and other countries observer them, normally by keeping a day's fast as thanksgiving to God for the advent of spring and resurgence of life after the cold winter.

Nowrouz is also widely celebrated in Central Asia, in Turkey, in Iraq, and even in parts of Pakistan and India. During the rule of the Moghul dynasty from the 16th to the early 19th century, and before the British colonialist stranglehold on the subcontinent, Nowrouz used to elaborately celebrated by the Muslims of India.

In Arab countries, especially in Egypt, Palestine, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan, the Vernal Equinox is marked as Eid al-Omm or Mother's day, to herald the rebirth of spring. Recently, the UN has declared March 21 as an official holiday. In Japan, the Spring Equinox is celebrated two days later on March 23. All these factors point out to the common root of this day in the distant past at the dawn of creation.

According to certain accounts, it will be on the day of Nowrouz
when the Prophet's 12th and last successor, Imam Mahdi (PBUH) will reappear, along with Prophet Jesus to end tyranny and corruption on earth and to establish the global government of peace, justice and prosperity.

The Islamic Revolution, 1978-79

The chain of events that ended in February 1979 with the overthrow of the Pahlavi regime and the foundation of the Islamic Republic began with the death in Najaf on October 23, 1977 of Hajj Sayyid Mustafa Khomeini, unexpectedly and under mysterious circumstances. This death was widely attributed to the Iranian security police, SAVAK, and protest meetings took place in Qum, Tehran, Yazd, Mashhad, Shiraz, and Tabriz. Imam Khomeini himself, with the equanimity he customarily displayed in the face of personal loss, described the death of his son as one of the “hidden favors” (altaf-i khafiya) of God, and advised the Muslims of Iran to show fortitude and hope.[28]

The esteem in which Imam Khomeini was held and the reckless determination of the Shah’s regime to undermine that esteem were demonstrated once again on January 7, 1978 when an article appeared in the semi-official newspaper Ittila’at attacking him in scurrilous terms as a traitor working together with foreign enemies of the country. The next day a furious mass protest took place in Qum; it was suppressed by the security forces with heavy loss of life. This was the first in a series of popular confrontations that, gathering momentum throughout 1978, soon turned into a vast revolutionary movement, demanding the overthrow of the Pahlavi regime and the installation of an Islamic government.

The martyrs of Qum were commemorated forty days later with demonstrations and shop closures in every major city of Iran. Particularly grave were the disturbances in Tabriz, which ended only after more than 100 people had been killed by the Shah’s troops. On March 29, the fortieth day after the killings in Tabriz was marked by a further round of demonstrations, in some fifty-five Iranian cities; this time the heaviest casualties occurred in Yazd, where security forces opened fire on a gathering in the main mosque. In early May, it was Tehran itself that saw the principal violence; armored columns appeared on the streets for the first time since June 1963 in order to contain the trend to revolution.

Moharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar. It is one of the four months of the year in which fighting is prohibited. Since the Islamic calendar is lunar, Moharram moves from year to year when compared with the Gregorian calendar.

Moharram is so called because it was unlawful to fight during this month; the word is derived from the word ‘haram’ meaning forbidden. It is held to be the most sacred of all the months, excluding Ramadan. Some Muslims fast during these days. The tenth day of Moharram is called Yaumu-l 'Ashurah, meaning, ‘the tenth day’, and it is a day of voluntary fasting. Fasting differs among the Muslim groupings; mainstream Shia Muslims stop eating and drinking during sunlight hours but do not fast until the evening. Sunni Muslims also fast during Moharram and on either the ninth or the eleventh day, the choice of which additional day being at the discretion of the individual.

The Battle of Karbala took place on Moharram 10, 61 AH (October 9 or 10, 680 CE) in Karbala, in present day Iraq. On one side were supporters and relatives of Muhammad's grandson Husayn ibn Ali; on the other side was a military detachment from the forces of Yazid I, the Umayyad caliph.

Husayn ibn Ali's group consisted of notable members of Muhammad's close relatives, around 72 men, of which some were either very old or very young. Husayn and some members of his group were accompanied by some of the women and children from their families. On the opposite side, the armed forces of Yazid I were led by Umar ibn Sa'ad and contained at least 40,000 men

Shia traditions state that Husayn ibn Ali's group killed over 20% of the enemy. Husayn ibn Ali himself killed 900 soldiers, despite the fact that he was thirsty and hungry for 3 days. It is stated that he died to resurrect Islam.

The battle field was a desert region located beside one of the branches of the Euphrates River. The battle resulted in the military defeat of Husayn ibn Ali's group, the death of almost all of his men, and the captivity of all women and children.

The Battle of Karbala is one of the most significant battles in the history of Shia Muslims.

This battle also had significant effects on formation of subsequent revolts against the Umayyad dynasty.

The battle of Husayn ibn Ali is commemorated during an annual 10-day period held every Moharram, culminating on its tenth day, Ashura. complete information

Yalda Night –

Yalda Night –

Shab-e Yaldā or Shab-e Chelleh is an Iranian festival originally celebrated on the Northern Hemisphere’s longest night of the year, that is, on the eve of the Winter Solstice.

The 13th century Iranian poet Sa’di wrote in his Bustan: “The true morning will not come, until the Yalda Night is gone”. Following the Iranian calendar reform of 1925, which pegged some seasonal events to specific days of the calendar, Yalda came to be celebrated on the night before and including the first day of the tenth month (Dey). Subject to seasonal drift, this day may sometimes fall a day before or a day after the actual Winter Solstice.

http://www.pacania.com/pacania/archGnrl/y2008m12/d20h13_yalda.jpg

Following the fall of the Sassanid Empire and the subsequent rise of Islam, the religious significance of the event was lost, and like other Zoroastrian festivals Yalda became a social occasion when family and close friends would get together. Nonetheless, the obligatory serving of fresh fruit during mid-winter is reminiscent of the ancient customs of invoking the divinities to request protection of the winter crop.

Eid al-Ghadir: greatest Muslim Eid
Fri, 28 Dec 2007 15:36:22
By Marjan Hassani Rad, Press TV, Tehran

Eid al-Ghadir is the anniversary commemorating the Prophet Muhammad's - peace be upon him and his progeny - last instructions to the believers by declaring Hazrat Ali - upon whom also be peace - his successor and legatee at Ghadir Khumm.

The occasion was his return from his last pilgrimage to Mecca which is known in history as 'Hajjat-ul-Wida'.

Prophet Muhammad's last sermon at Ghadir Khumm is an event celebrated by Shia Muslims worldwide, who regard it as the confirmation of Hazrat Ali's succession to Prophet Muhammad.

This event took place on the 18th of Zil-Hajj, in 632 CE, 3 months before the Prophet Mohammad's demise.

On this day the Prophet Mohammad was ordered by the Almighty to publicly and officially appoint Imam Ali as his successor and to seek the Muslims' allegiance for Ali. He therefore ordered all caravans returning from Hajj to stop at Ghadir Khumm. As soon as all the pilgrims were gathered, he revealed Ayah-e Ghadir Khumm to the people.

The message was: "O Messenger, deliver to the people what has been revealed to you from your Lord and if you do not do so then you will not have delivered His message and Allah will protect you from the people. For God does not guide those who reject Faith."

Near the end of his blessed life, Prophet Muhammad had been uneasy. There was a potential for disunity in the nascent Muslim community. Muhammad declared his own son-in-law and cousin, Ali ibn Abu Taleb, as his spiritual and secular heir publicly at God's command.

After declaring Hazrat Ali his successor by raising his hand and calling him the true leader of Muslims after himself, Prophet Muhammad called on Muslims to give allegiance to their Imam. All Muslims declared allegiance to Imam Ali as the leader of the believers by congratulating him on this great honor.

The Holy Prophet asked at Ghadir Khumm, "Am I not more precious to you than your own-selves?"

In response to this question Muslims said "Yes, you are dearer to us than our own lives."

The Prophet responded with, "O God, be witness to their admission. Ali is the master of one who acknowledges me to be his master. O God, love those who love Ali. Help those who help Ali. Desert those who desert Ali. I am the city of knowledge and Ali is the gate."

However, after the death of Prophet Mohammad some Muslims did not observe or adhere to the allegiance that they had sworn to Imam Ali; some did. Those who did adhere to Allah's command and obeyed the order of the Prophet Mohammad became known as the partisans of Ali, the Eid Ghadir is considered one of the most important religious celebrations in Iran. Muslims demonstrate their allegiance great love and respect for Imam Ali.

On this day men, women, and children dress in their finest clothing to visit their relatives and friends.

During this holiday, Iranian Muslims traditionally visit the families that are related to the Prophet to assert allegiance. The "seyyeds" thank them with cookies and various gifts.

Many young Iranian couples make use of the auspicious day to wed.

They hope their marriage will remain firm and permanent with the remembrance of Imam Ali (PBUH).

ID-E-GHORBAN

  • Eid-Al-Adha (Eid-Al-Azha or Eid-e- Ghorban) is the festival of sacrifice. The word "Azha" literally means sheep, goats or cattle offered in sacrifice. All Moslems celebrate this festival by sacrificing cattle.

  • This is the second festival introduced by the prophet Mohammed and is connected with the historical incident when Saint Abrahim (Abraham) decided to sacrifice his son Ismail (Ishmael) to Allah (God). God put a ram in place of Ismail.

  • About two thousand seven hundred and ninety three years before the Migration (Hijrat) of Prophet Mohammed, Saint Abrahim, his wife and his infant son Ismail left Syria to Mecca. Mecca was a desert with no water and vegetation. Saint Abrahim prays to God, departs from his family but ensure them of God's protection. Janab-e-Hagar, Saint Abrahim's wife in compliance's with God's will settled on the land until all the stored water was used up. She climbed two hills of Safa and Marva seven times without a stop in hope of finding water for her thirsty infant. However, it was in vain.

  • When she returns to her child without water, she found her infant son under a fountain of water rushing under his feet. On viewing the miracle of God, she thanked God and called this water Zamzam. Since then, this fountain is known as Zamzam.

  • The tribe of Jurhum was passing by in search of water when they found the fountain, Abrahim's wife and his son. With the permission of Janab-Hagar, they stayed at the place of "Arafat". The tribe settled there with approval of Saint Abrahim when he returned to visit his wife and son.

  • The tribe offered sheep to Saint Abrahim' son, Ismail as a present. As Ismail grew older, he owned a large number of sheep. He lived with his mother comfortably and was visited by his father occasionally.

  • One day Saint Abrahim saw in his dream slaughtering his son so he took his dream as a command of his Lord. He spoke with his son and asked for his opinion. Saint Ismail responded "if God pleases, you will find me among the patient ones."

Kaaba

  • Saint Abrahim and Ismail prepared for the sacrifice. When Saint Abrahim moved the knife against Ismail's neck, Angel Gabriel replaced Ismail with a sheep. God praised Saint Abrahim for passing the test. When Saint Abrahim found his son safe, he thanked God and took his son to Kaaba (in Saudi Arabia).

  • Saint Abrahim's commitment and devotion to God earned such a great pleasure of God that all Muslims required to visit Kaaba a monument to Allah at least once in their lifetime if they can afford it.

  • Some commentators have interpreted that physical conclusion of great sacrifice of Ismail is found in the Martyrdom of Imam Husain.

مادر

My mom only had one eye.  I hated her... she was such an embarrassment.

She cooked for students & teachers to support the family

There was this one day during elementary school where my mom came to say hello

I was so embarrassed. How could she do this to me

I ignored her, threw her a hateful look and ran out

The next day at school one of my classmates said, "EEEE, your mom only has one eye!"

I wanted to bury myself. I also wanted my mom to just disappear

So I confronted her that day and said, " If you're only gonna make me a laughing stock, why don't you just die?!!!"

My mom did not respond...

I didn't even stop to think for a second about what I had said, because I was full of anger

I was oblivious to her feelings

I wanted out of that house, and have nothing to do with her

So I studied real hard, got a chance to go to Singapore to study

Then, I got married. I bought a house of my own. I had kids of my own

I was happy with my life, my kids and the comforts

Then one day, my mother came to visit me

She hadn't seen me in years and she didn't even meet her grandchildren

When she stood by the door, my children laughed at her, and I yelled at her for coming over uninvited

I screamed at her, "How dare you come to my house and scare my children!" GET OUT OF HERE! NOW!!!"

And to this, my mother quietly answered, "Oh, I'm so sorry. I may have gotten the wrong address," and she disappeared out of sight

One day, a letter regarding a school reunion came to my house in Singapore

So I lied to my wife that I was going on a business trip

After the reunion, I went to the old shack just out of curiosity

My neighbors said that she is died.

I did not shed a single tear.

They handed me a letter that she had wanted me to have.

"My dearest son, I think of you all the time. I'm sorry that I came to Singapore and scared your children.

I was so glad when I heard you were coming for the reunion.

But I may not be able to even get out of bed to see you.

I'm sorry that I was a constant embarrassment to you when you were growing up.

You see........when you were very little, you got into an accident, and lost your eye.

As a mother, I couldn't stand watching you having to grow up with one eye.

So I gave you mine.

I was so proud of my son who was seeing a whole new world for me, in my place, with that eye.

With my love to you,

CELEBRATION OF EID-UL-FITR IN TRINIDAD & TOBAGO

Eid-ul-Fitr or Id-Ul-Fitr, often abbreviated simply as 'Eid', is a Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting.

Eid is an Arabic term meaning "festivity" or "celebration" while Fitr means "to break the fast".

As in other parts of the world Eid ul-fitr is marked with great sadness and jubilation. Sadness that the blessed month of Ramadan has ended, and great happiness that we have completed our fast and Inshallah (God willing) our fast would have been accepted.

Muslims celebrate not only the end of fasting, but also thank God for the help and strength that they believe he gave them throughout the previous month to help them practice self-control.

New clothes are bought to be worn to mosque for Eid prayer. Mehindi or henna is applied to the hands of the sisters.

The Eid prayer is recited in congregation in mosques or in an outdoor area (a ground or park) to accommodate the large numbers who attend this prayer.

Nights of Qadr

Ramadan is one of the names of God just like other names of the Creator of the universe. That’s why it should never be uttered by itself. ’We should say: The Month of Ramadan’.
Historian Hosham Ibn-e Salem said, “We were eight persons accompanying Imam Mohammad Baqer (AS), the fifth Imam of Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) infallible household. The Imam (AS) advised us not to say Ramadan came or went, because, it is one of the names of God and you should specify ’the month of Ramadan’. The holy Qur’an was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) during this holy month and God Almighty conferred blessing of festivity on the holy month.
“Just as the Almighty sent Jesus Christ (PBUH) as a blessing for Christians, the holy month was a blessing for Muslims, because, the holy book was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on this occasion,“ Imam Ali (AS), the first Imam of Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) infallible household said.
The Persian daily Hamshahri said that to recognize a blessing, the best way is to refer to words of the Almighty and religious leaders and that they have described the fasting month of Ramadan as the holy month during which it is obligatory for human beings to fast from dawn to dusk.
Imam Ali (AS) said, “Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) described it thus: O’ People, the month of God, blessing and mercy has come to you.“
The term ’blessing’ conveys the concept of ’abundance, growth and mercy. The book Lessan Al-Arab (language of Arab) by Ibn Abbas said that ’blessing is abundance and goodness’.
Ragheb Esfahani said, “Blessing is just like a pool filled with goodness and mercy of God and that the month of Ramadan has been referred to as holy and a blessing in the Qur’an.“
“Holy Qur’an says: Enna Anzalna Fi Leila t-al-Mobarakah: In fact, holy Qur’an was revealed to entire humanity on the night of Qadr (night of vigil).“
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said observe fasting to guarantee your well-being. Imam Ali (AS) said in one of his sermons “Fear God and the punishment of corruption. The Almighty saves human beings when they observe piety, perform prayers and abstain from eating in the holy month of Ramadan and give alms to the poor. Observing the commands of the Almighty helps human being overcome Satan and the illnesses, especially fasting has many virtues which are rewarded by God.
Hosham bin Hakam asked Imam Jaafar Sadeq (AS), the sixth Imam of Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) infallible household about philosophy of fasting, the Imam said that God Almighty made fasting obligatory to make the rich understand the poor suffering from starvation and encourage them to offer alms to the poor.
Nights of vigil coincide with the 21st and 23rd of the month of Ramadan.
Imam Musa Al-Kazem (AS), the seventh Imam of Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) infallible household said that the faithful can come closer to God by observing vigil on the nights of Qadr.
Imam Ali (AS) said that his wife Hazrat-e Fatemeh (SA) did not allow anyone to sleep on Qadr nights. “She used to say those sleeping on Qadr nights, are depriving themselves of the virtues of the sacred nights.“
Imam Baqer (AS) said that on the nights of Qadr, the angels come down to the earth watching the faithful worshipping and fasting.
“The weather is splendid on Qadr nights. In winter, those nights are warmer than other nights and in summer, vigil nights are cooler,“ the fifth Imam said.

hadi-ramadhan21-imam-ali-ayyam-qadr-editorial-pic-master-withtext

Condolences to the all the Muslims of the Universe and all freedom and justice loving people on the occasion of the anniversary of the Martyrdom of the Commander of the Faithful, the Brother of the Prophet Muhammad(S), Imam Ali ibn ibn Abi Talib(A).

Also, on the advent of the Nights of Qadr (Power, Destiny, Fate), which range from the 19th of Ramadhan to the 27th of Ramadhan, it is important to focus on our belief, on our sins and on reforming ourselves, first internally and on a personal and individual level, then on a familial level and then on a social level.

Throughout the world, we can see much oppression and injustice, we can see natural resources plundered, we can see global chaos, and in these days the words of Dua al-Iftitah:

O Allah, we ardently desire that in [his] kind, just, and fair era,
Thou should reactivate Islam and stimulate its followers,
and humble and humiliate the imposters and their double-dealing,
and include us among those who invite people unto Thy      obedience,
and lead them to Thy approved path,
and give us the good of this world and the world to come.

and also

O Allah, we feel uneasy about and are disturbed by
     the departure of our Prophet,
Thy blessings be on him and on his family,
     the absence of our guardian-friend,
     too many enemies,
     our numerical scarcity,
     widespread disorder,
     and the vicissitudes of time.

So send blessings on Muhammad and on his family,
and help us to overcome this state of affairs at once.

Disperse the ominous clouds hanging over our heads;
     lend a helping hand to achieve success;
     bring in the rule of justice and fair play;
     make us bright, free from grief;
     and take care of us.
Through Thy mercy, O most Merciful.

It is important for all to reflect on this supplication, which as mentioned in previous editorials is recited daily during the blessed nights of the Month of Ramadhan.

We should also reflect and read the Quran and reflect upon the contents therein; while there is a spiritual value in reciting Quran; there is far more benefit from every perspective – be it personal, spiritual, educational, mental, sociological, political, economical, etc – in reading the Quran and reflecting upon it’s words and learning from it.

You can listen to the entire Quran here on Islamic Digest by going to our Quran Library.

Allah, the Mighty the Sublime has told us that the Nights of Qadr are more valuable than 1000 (one thousand) months in terms of their spiritual weight; we should all strive to gain the most benefit from these nights and achieve the pleasure of Allah, which will by its very nature give us calm and peace in our hearts; after all; in the Quran, Allah says:

Verily it is in the remembrance of Allah that hearts find peace

(Quran, Surah Yusuf (Joseph), Ayah (Verse) 28)

Imam Hassan Mujtaba (AS

On the Birth Anniversary of Imam Hassan (AS) Mahjubah sends congratulations to all Muslims of the world and uses this opportunity to present a brief summary of his life.

Imam Hassan Mujtaba (AS) was the first grandson of the

Holy Prophet (SAW) and also the first offspring of the holy matrimony of Imam Ali (AS) and Hazrat Fatima (SA). He was born in the middle of Ramadhan, 3 A.H.

The birth of Hassan ibn Ali (AS) and his childhood

When he was born, the Prophet (SAW) cuddled him lovingly in his arms and whispered the "Azan" in his right ear and "Iqamah" in his left ear.

Imam Hassan was cared and loves by his grandfather for seven years. In his childhood he accompanied the Prophet (SAW) to the mosque and when he (SAW) prostrated, he would climb upon his shoulders. The Prophet (SAW) would remain in prostration for a longer time and let the child sit on his shoulders.

Imam Hassan (AS) was one of the four persons who accompanied the Prophet (SAW) under the `Aba" (clock) when God sent down this verse:

"Allah"s wish is but to remove uncleanness from you, O people of the Household and cleanse you with a thorough cleansing." (33:33)

Once when Christian scholars had come to Medina to talk to the Prophet (SAW) and  to enquire about his call to Islam, a heated debate ensued. For this reason, each party took their dearest of kin to the dessert and appealed to Allah to curse the party who uttered falsehood.

The Prophet (SAW) took Imam Ali, Fatima, Hassan and Hussain (AS) to the desert. When the Christian scholars saw the children of the Prophet (SAW), they gave up the idea of calling down the curse of Allah on the loser of the debate.

One day during his childhood, he with his brother Hussain (AS) saw an Arab man performing ablution. In as much as he didn't perform the ritual properly, they decided to show him how it should be done. But in order that he might not be annoyed, they suggested to him that they perform ablution, and the man judge which ablution was correctly performed. The Arab man said: "Both your ablutions are perfect and mine is wrong." He was amazed at their politeness and asked them who they were and kissed their faces.

As to the features of his face and body, Imam Hassan (AS) had healthy pink cheeks, black eyes, thick beard, curly thick hair, silver-white neck, symmetry of body, broad shoulders, firm muscles, slender waist, middle stature and handsome looks.

Moral Endowments:

Imam Hassan (AS) was generous, modest and brave. During his ablution and saying his prayer, his body trembled and his face turned pale. He divided his money: one part for himself; another for the Cause of Allah; and the remaining part for the relief of needy people.

One day he passed by a group of poor people in the street who had spread a cloth on the ground. Seeing Imam Hassan (AS), they invited him to lunch with them which was nothing but crumbs. Imam accepted the invitation and took a few morsels and then he took them home and gave them food and clothes. He made pilgrimage to the Holy Kaba 25 times on foot, whereas he had full-bred horses. The Holy Prophet (SAW) had said that Hassan (AS) and Hussain (AS) were both his children and Imams, whether they rose up or secluded themselves. In the battles of Jamal and Siffin, Imam Hassan (AS) fought by his father's side and displayed great valor. Some historians narrated that during the caliphate of Umar ibn Khattab, Imam Hassan (AS) was a conqueror of part of the Iranian territory.
